I would recommend a tutor or instructor for the first year, getting started, though there are online teaching websites. Online lessons let you go at your own pace, and mull things over yourself, so you really learn the material. Also, you can hop on anytime, and you don’t need dates, times, and schedules. Also, online lessons are free. Just google it and you’re sure to get plenty of websites.
I started off with a piano instructor, just one-on-one lessons for a while. It was nice because they can offer direct feedback and immediate responses to mistakes, whereas online you’d have to e-mail someone, or figure it out on your own. Also, the nice thing about an instructor is that they generally have music for beginners that they can lend you, at-least mine did. You’d have to search for beginners music on your own online, which can be fine with the right websites.
Also, an instructor can direct and present music that fits your abilities better as you improve, rather than a formula, sort of recipe lessons on the web.
Again, I’d recommend a tutor, but other resources are out there that can be more convenient.

Question by Mikki Sue71: At what age would you recommend starting children with piano lessons?
I just bought a piano for myself (I used to play) and my kids (6 and 4) love “playing” it. My daughter (6) is asking for lessons. She will start 1st grade in the fall. I started playing the flute when I was in the fourth grade. Should I wait until she gets to the fourth grade for piano lessons? I have no intention of trying to raise a Mozart, just to have an understanding and love of music.

No way, start her as soon as possible, like my friends started when they were 3 and they’re insane now, start em young, she will benefit a lot more, and probably enjoy it more!

Question by : I used to play piano fluently and would like to start teaching myself again. What song should I start with?
I’m in high school and music is very important to me. I play the viola and the guitar and I used to take piano lessons. I stopped about 4-5 years ago and now I would like to start again. I took lessons for about 4 years so I’m past the basics but I’m not too advanced. Does anybody know of a few songs to get myself back into the groove of things?

Question by Donni-Jay: If you play piano, would you play boogie woogie nowadays?
Many people have learned to play piano, using one finger chords, and the key changer, which means they would not be able to play a boogie.
Have you heard boogie piano, and would you like to learn to play it?
Or, do you already play boogie woogie?

Why not? Its an imaginative motif w/in a broadly accepted genre. Check out Billy Preston, often known as “the sixth stone”, and a very talented and successful exponent of the idiom in modern times..
