Ask your school music teacher if he/she can recommend a piano instructor, or ask anyone you know that can play piano. Look in NY-based magazines and newspapers for ads for instructors. You live in the greatest city in the world for the arts, and there are so many opportunities there, that you’ll definitely find an instructor you like.

Yes, it can help dramatically. Success these days though isn’t through usual channels. Probably most important at your tender age is to find someone who could mentor you a bit as to where the heck you are going and how the heck you might be able to get there. Most like likely five years from now you will be doing some business job for real $ $ $ , but it is probably worth giving your fantasy a shot. Some people get to do those things, sort of like the number of successful pro basket ball players compared to the number of high school students who were very good in their home basketball team. Over all the odds are against you, but hey Lebron was a little kid once too only a few years ago!!!

Question by John S: How long does it take to get good at piano with the best piano learning software?
I asked another question that involved which piano learning software I should go for, and I just remembered that I have another question. Lets say I go out and actually find the best piano learning software out there, (if they actually work). How long would it take me to get pretty decent at piano if I practiced using the lessons for 1-2 hours a day? Can it be done within 6 months?

Hi there. I am pretty sure there is a edit button so you can change your question in the other thread, but no worries, I will just answer you here, I have all the time in the world today:)
Its really hard to predict what your results will be like, even with the “best piano learning software”. In my opinion if you were to practice 1-2 hours a day you will get decent pretty fast. Now I put punctiation on decent, cause you definitely wont get world class, but you will be able to turn a couple of heads in amazement whenever there is a piano around.
As I told you I can definitely recommend the site that helped me back in the day, http://bestpianolearningsoftware.com/
Check it out and I think you will find the answers to alot of your questions there.

Question by c0ffee_luvr: should I take piano lessons before learning guitar?
I want to be musically inclined and learn how to play guitar. However, I’ve been told that it’s best to take piano lessons first, because if you can play the piano you can play anything. I would be taking the lessons at my college. What is everyone’s input on that?

dont take piano lessons. not only are they boring but the time u waste learning the piano could have been time on the guitar (;

Question by nerris121: What’s a good age to start letting my kid take piano lessons?
I really want him or her to be a great pianist, so what’s the best earliest age to take lessons.
Is 4 good?
And yes, I know, you’re going to say “Don’t force it into him if he doesn’t like it.”
Of course I won’t, but if he does like the piano, I want him to take as many lessons as possible at the earliest possible age.

I started when i was 8 and went once a week until I was 18. SO maybe 6-8 is a good time to start, or maybe more like 7-8

Question by Lil: What are some good reasons to take piano lessons?
I’m a pianist who is giving lessons. I was looking for a more scientific perspective. in other words, how does this help my student achieve more scholastically or how does this help them become more capable of integrating with other children naturally? Do piano lessons help them socially, academically?

Well I guess if they like music, it helps them find something that they enjoy doing, and music is one thing that can help people relive stress … so maybe it is a way to just have fun after a hard day at school?
