I’ve been playing piano for eight years now and I feel as though I haven’t learned enough popular piano songs. I’m looking for songs that everyone knows! IE: Piano Man by Billy Joel, Mountain King, Ode to Joy, Entertainer…. Just piano songs that everyone’s heard before (even if they don’t know the name…) I’m looking for mainly classical songs.

I want to be musically inclined and learn how to play guitar. However, I’ve been told that it’s best to take piano lessons first, because if you can play the piano you can play anything. I would be taking the lessons at my college. What is everyone’s input on that?

Question by stoneartanimals: how much should I charge for piano lessons?
I am a college student and have been playing piano for 15 yrs. I have been teaching lessons for four years now. Since I started while I was in highschool , I set my price very low ($ 5 a half hour). But now I want to raise it. How much should I charge? How much would you pay? And should I raise it only for new students, or how could I raise it for the students I have had for these four years? Is it fair to charge different amounts for different people? Thank you!

im just a beginner in piano. I want a digital piano that is very similar in sound and feel to a real piano. I also want to have a MIDI and earphone(headphone) feature since i live in a apartment and i might bother other people if i had a real piano. the price of the digital piano cant be over 2000 dollars

Growing up we had a Yamaha Clavinova, though I cant recall the model number. The weighted keys felt just like a real piano and the sound was great. It had MIDI in/out, headphone jack and volume control.

I’m learning guitar, and the tips of my finger are numb from holding down the strings. Now it’s really hard for me to play the piano because I can’t feel the keys. What should I do?

Your fingers are numb from callouses and will “toughen up” the more you play guitar.
Don’t learn to play the piano with ‘touch’ when it comes to finding the keys. Just learn where they are without looking at the keyboard in relationship to your hands. Just as you do with a typewriter keyboard.
It is a very easy habit to pick up.
The velocity of the keys on the piano when you press them should come from “feeling” the muscles in your fingers.
You probably do all of these things anyway and just don’t realize it.
I have a finger that lost it’s tip and was reattached. It has absolutely no feeling what so ever in the tip, but I know how hard I am pressing the keys (I love to play touch sensitive keyboards on top of it all!) by paying attention to how the muscles in my upper (toward the knucke) fingers feel.

Question by : I used to play piano fluently and would like to start teaching myself again. What song should I start with?
I’m in high school and music is very important to me. I play the viola and the guitar and I used to take piano lessons. I stopped about 4-5 years ago and now I would like to start again. I took lessons for about 4 years so I’m past the basics but I’m not too advanced. Does anybody know of a few songs to get myself back into the groove of things?

I need something stately, other than the traditional Pomp and Circumstance, to play (solo piano) for the GED graduation ceremony. Any suggestions?

What other techniques are common in classical pieces? I have a piano book so I’ll probably be able to look up the specific names of techniques.

. . . Usually people learn Fur Elise after a few years of learning some easier pieces. If you skip ahead you may not end up developing any real skills. You’ll only be able to play what you’ve taught your fingers through dull repetition.
But anyway, learn scales and arpeggios if you want. Fur Elise is what many consider an easy piece, and it doesn’t require too much virtuosity as far as technique goes. Have fun!
