Question by John S: How long does it take to get good at piano with the best piano learning software?
I asked another question that involved which piano learning software I should go for, and I just remembered that I have another question. Lets say I go out and actually find the best piano learning software out there, (if they actually work). How long would it take me to get pretty decent at piano if I practiced using the lessons for 1-2 hours a day? Can it be done within 6 months?

Hi there. I am pretty sure there is a edit button so you can change your question in the other thread, but no worries, I will just answer you here, I have all the time in the world today:)

Its really hard to predict what your results will be like, even with the “best piano learning software”. In my opinion if you were to practice 1-2 hours a day you will get decent pretty fast. Now I put punctiation on decent, cause you definitely wont get world class, but you will be able to turn a couple of heads in amazement whenever there is a piano around.

As I told you I can definitely recommend the site that helped me back in the day, http://bestpianolearningsoftware.com/

Check it out and I think you will find the answers to alot of your questions there.

Question by c0ffee_luvr: should I take piano lessons before learning guitar?
I want to be musically inclined and learn how to play guitar. However, I’ve been told that it’s best to take piano lessons first, because if you can play the piano you can play anything. I would be taking the lessons at my college. What is everyone’s input on that?

If you can play piano/keyboard will learning to play keytar come easy to you?

Question by Love, Hil (Hitler’s BFF): If you can play piano/keyboard will learning to play keytar come easy to you?
I found this old keytar in my dad’s old stuff and I was shocked haha but I really wanna learn how to play it. I’ve played piano by ear since I was about 9 or 10 and took up keyboard and started learning the proper notes. I play guitar too and I was wondering if keytar would be easy for me to learn because it’s such a cool instrument! Thanks for any help and/or tips.

Best answer:

Answer by Son of (a) Moog
Yeah, it should… really you have a KEYTAR? That’s freaking awesome =]

Although it may look like you are somewhat playing a guitar XP There really aren’t any guitar skills involved. The only thing I can think of is if you need to really rock out some expressive music, and work the controls on the neck a lot, your arm will get tired fast at first. That’s similar to playing a guitar in that you’re using muscles that you’ve really never worked much in your life. They sell these little gizmos for guitar players that you can squeeze between your palm and fingers, but in your case, I would just recommend rocking out a LOT!

Q&A: How do I get started learning to play piano?

play piano 5 Comments »

Question by DZ: How do I get started learning to play piano?
I’ve always found it interesting to play piano, but I think I will like it. I do not want to invest hundreds upon hundreds of dollars into it. I would prefer to start out with something cheap like a keyboard and learn via an instructional book. What should I get? I was at Target and saw a keyboard with fewer keys than the piano style. Is there a difference? I would like to mock a real piano electronically as much as possible. What are the best books to learn? What should I buy? I dont know anything about music!

Answer by Goofy
GET A TEACHER FOR A LITTLE WHILE TO TEACH YOU THE BASICS.

Buy the John Tompsan piano books if you can.

“Teaching little fingers how to play”

Or buy a CD-ROM that teaches you a little. You can buy them at a book store or a music store.

You can find a friend that is generous. He must own a piano or an electric piano and have about 2yrs of learning the piano.
he might teach you a little of the piano and not charge you at all.

I really want to start learning how to play the piano. I already have a keyboard with 61 keys, i don’t know if i should buy a full sized piano, or even if it will make a difference…HELP!

It doesn’t matter. Since you’re only starting, the songs you’re going to play will only use a small range of notes anyway. So you can later progress to a bigger and better full sized piano.
Good luck with your piano playing!!

Basically, beginner’s piano lessons cover almost everything that an aspiring pianist wants to learn about playing the piano. The rest primarily depends upon one’s talent, skill and inclination. However, this comes only after completing the beginner’s piano lessons and mastering the fundamentals. Constant practice makes this attainable.
