Question by Amber: How long w piano lessons would it take an average person to b good enough 2 b admitted 2 minor in jazz studies?
I had a year of piano in 5th grade and know how to read music but I was thinking piano lessons once a week with practice and getting the classes that don’t require an instrument first

My Romance – jazz piano Lesson. This is another re-cycled midi file done some time ago. After the solo first chorus, I tried to get the ‘collective improvisation’ feel with bass, drums and piano responding to each other – even though I was playing all parts – this involving re-recording each part several times. I was hoping for a High Definition video here, as it is difficult to read the notation without it. ‘Spain’ (Chick Corea) – jazz piano lesson. I did this about 7 years ago, and it has been kicking around the web since then. I recorded the bass and drum tracks first, and improvised the piano part later. I tried another method of annotating, using a ’spotlight’ effect to highlight the section of music being referred to in the text. Again, the audio on this video has been spoilt – on the first solo section, there is severe ‘clipping’ that causes distortion at the loudest levels. And when the bass and drums enter there is a curious loud / soft ‘pumping’ in the volume levels. It is worse when using the ‘High quality’ option youtube.com and you need this to see the notes and annotations clearly. The solution is to go to my web site www.bushgrafts.com and download an excellent quality video from there – and the ‘backing track’ I did – bass and drums – to play along with (they are free!)

I have been playing piano for 10 years and I’m auditioning for my high school jazz band. I’m not sure what I want to play but i was thinking something like April in Paris or Ain’t misbehavin, any suggetions?

Maybe you should play a tune that you really like and have played a lot. Either one of the tunes you mentioned would be good. Whatever you choose, practice it thoroughly before your audition. Good luck!
