Hi David, I stumbled on your video today and I must say you have my attention. I did grade 8 Associated Board quite a few years ago and after recent absence from playing regularly, I have been trying to start again. The problem is, I am just so board with Classical music. Don’t get me wrong, I love listening still but I literally do not have the concentration power after work to be playing Rachmaninov anymore! Not the most light hearted music either. I will let you know how i get on!

Thanks for sharing this lesson. I’m a beginner learning on my own. I’ve always wondered how people sing and play the piano at the same time .. I think my question has been answered by this video … I guess with dedicated practice I should be able to do it… Great lesson..

Thank you. I was wondering how it was done. I thought they knew nothing about music, but could simply hear it, and play it. Interesting…

This is very useful - I’m a guitarist who makes his own tunes but I’ve just started trying to add keys to it (using a Clavinola). Your tutorials are clear and concise and very useful. Thanks for posting.

Great advice here. You can apply a similar technique to a guitar, economise your playing with inversions, changing only the notes you need to in order to make your playing smoother.
The best thing you can do if you want to learn by ear is to learn inversions, intervals and learn the keyboard/fretboard inside out. Train your ears to be able to distinguish between various chord tonalities, major, minor, augmented, diminished, etc. You’ll be amazed what your ears can do when you put them to work!

this helps. i’ve recently gotten comfortable playing a number of songs with all sorts of varied chords using both hands, but i’ve just been playing the same 13 5 with both hand just in the neighboring octaves and it sounds boring and stale. this improves the sound for sure.
